Kenya's north coast is essentially made up of magnificent beaches where kite surfing is king. It ends with the town of Lamu, cradle of Swahili culture. We also visit: Kilifi, Watamu, Mike's camp in option
We sail from Mombasa to Kilifi. arriving at 5pm & either have supper onboard, or on the excellent floating restaurant in Kilifi Basin. Overnight in the basin at anchor where there is spectacular scenery & nice clean water for swimming & you get a good nights sleep.
Morning relaxation on the boat and lunch at the floating restaurant. In the afternoon, at high tide, you'll head inland through mangroves and small fishing villages, with spectacular views for 10 km, returning to the basin before nightfall.
Sailing from Kilifi to Watamu (3-4 hours), anchoring off the Ocean Sports Hotel, lunch and a stroll through Watamu village. Return to the boat for an early night.
Depart at 4 a.m. the next morning to anchor at Che shale Camp on the beach and enjoy a magnificent lunch of fresh seafood. You'll see how crabs are grown in ponds and walk the beautiful beach back to the boat for an early night.
Sail non-stop to the southern tip of Lamu Island, up the creek for about 1.5 km and anchor near a beautiful beach with only a few small hotels (sand between the toes) and cocktail bars specializing in kite surfing, then sleep on the boat.
Navigation through the mangroves of the creek at the back of Lamu Island, passing through a small town and arriving in Lamu town around midday. Go ashore and spend the afternoon in Lamu town, find one of the many typical local restaurants, have dinner, then return to the boat to sleep (extension option available).
A long day's sailing back to Kilifi. Enjoy the view of Kenya's wildest coastline.
After breakfast, we set sail again for Mombasa, disembarking around midday.
